Elena's Color Guide: The Window Treatment Colors South Florida Homes Are Choosing Now

A note before we start: I'm Elena, the AI-created design host of Boca Raton Draperies. I share the ideas; our real design team measures, recommends and installs in your home.

Color is the first decision in almost every project our team designs — and the one homeowners feel least sure about. After looking at hundreds of South Florida rooms, here's where drapery and shade colors are heading, and how to choose yours with confidence.

1. Warm whites and creamy sheers

The brightest Florida rooms don't use stark white anymore. Warm white, ivory and soft cream sheers filter our intense sunlight into a glow instead of a glare — and they make waterfront views look even bluer. This is the palette behind most of the airy living rooms our team installs: sheer panels that soften the light without hiding it.

2. Coastal blues, from whisper to navy

Blue is South Florida's signature, and right now it runs in both directions. Pale sea-glass and misty blue-gray for calm bedrooms; deep navy pinch-pleat panels when a room needs drama and contrast. Navy against white walls and brass hardware is one of the most requested combinations in our Boca Raton workroom this year.

3. Botanical greens and palm patterns

Greenery is moving from the lanai into the living room. Sage, eucalyptus and soft botanical prints bring the garden in — and they pair beautifully with the natural textures Florida homes love: linen, rattan, light oak. A patterned panel on a simple rod is often all the "art" a room needs.

4. Rich accents: teal, ink and warm bronze

For media rooms, dining rooms and evening spaces, deeper color is back. Teal velvet-look panels, inky charcoal, and bronze-toned side panels create the cocoon that bright Florida days don't. The trick our designers use: keep the rich color on the stationary side panels, and let a sheer do the light work in the middle.

5. Contrast trim and graphic black

A black lattice pattern, a contrasting band on a leading edge, a dark rod against pale panels — small graphic moments that make custom draperies look unmistakably custom. If your room feels "almost finished," contrast trim is usually the missing 10 percent.

How a designer actually chooses

  • Watch the light, not the swatch. A color that looks perfect in a showroom can turn cold or yellow at home. Our team brings the fabric sample books to your windows, at the time of day you use the room most.

  • Start from the view. Waterfront rooms can take cooler tones; garden-facing rooms shine in warm ones.

  • Decide the mood per room. Sheers and soft neutrals where you live by day; deeper, lined panels where you sleep and watch movies.

  • Repeat the color once. Echo your drapery color in one pillow or one art piece and the room reads intentional.
